Music Ensembles
At First-Plymouth, there is an opportunity for everyone to be involved in music ministry.
First-Plymouth Choir
The First-Plymouth Choir is an 80-voice adult choir which sings weekly for the 10:30 a.m. worship service and also participates in many community concerts in partnership with Abendmusik: Lincoln. The requirements for membership are enthusiasm, energy, and effort; no audition is required. We work together to develop a collective sense of community-- musically and spiritually-- that enables us to share God’s love with one another and with our congregation. Rehearsals are held September through May on Wednesday evenings from 7:15-9:30 PM in the Choir Room. For further information, contact Tom Trenney, Minister of Music. Here is a link to the Plymouth Choir repertoire and Schedule
Cantorei
The Plymouth Cantorei, a 20-voice chamber choir, will serve as worship leaders at the 9:00 a.m. service twice each month. Singing a repertoire spanning nearly ten centuries, Cantorei will bring new life to colorful, passionate musical offerings from across the ages. The primary role of Cantorei will be their service as leaders of our congregational song. Rehearsals will be scheduled as needed during the season. Schedule
NEW Choir: TE DEUM
New to the collection of ensembles at First-Plymouth is TE DEUM which will sing once each month at our creative and inter-generational 9:00 a.m. worship service. All adults and all high school-aged students are invited to this new opportunity to sing praises to God. TE DEUM will frequently collaborate with the First-Plymouth Choristers and Chorale in leading a diverse, eclectic palette of music at the 9:00 a.m. service. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. in the choir room. Contact Tom Trenney to reserve your spot in TE DEUM today. Schedule
Chorale (grades 6-12)
Youth in grades 6-12 are encouraged to raise their voices to God, sharing music together in First-Plymouth's Chorale. Led by Jeremy Bankson, this group of junior and senior high students meets in the choir room each Wednesday evening from 5:45-6:30 p.m. and sings as leaders in worship at the 9:00 a.m. worship service on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Schedule
Choristers (grades 3-5)
All children in third, fourth, and fifth grade are invited to sing with the First-Plymouth's Choristers. We maintain an active schedule serving as worship leaders on the first and third Sunday of every month at the 9:00 a.m. worship service. The Choristers' experience offers a warm, welcoming environment for children to explore their artistic gifts, to begin to nurture their spiritual lives, and to channel their creative energies in a fun and meaningful way! We sing not to entertain an audience, but to offer praise to God on behalf of our families and friends in the congregation. The Choristers rehearse on Wednesday evenings, September through May from 5:45-6:30 p.m. in the Chapel with Tom Trenney. Schedule
ALLELUIA! (grades K-2)
ALLELUIA! welcomes young children to explore and nurture their creative and spiritual gifts by sharing music. This interactive and fun encounter with scripture and song will encourage the singers to freely and joyfully express their faith even as they build their skills in teamwork, cooperation, and musicianship. The children will sing in worship three times this year: Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, and Mothers' Day, gathering for seasonal rehearsals on Saturday mornings. Phyllis Owen and Jessica Rajewich bring their gifts and graces as co-leaders of this new offering of First-Plymouth's music ministry.
Youth Orchestra
First Plymouth's amazing Youth Orchestra is an ensemble made up of instrumentalists in grades 6-12 who come together to play in worship for major church events each year. The group rehearses for a few weeks prior to playing-- a short term commitment with great rewards for the musicians and the congregation! Contact conductor Jeremy Bankson if you would like to play with the orchestra! Schedule
