Are there any new member classes I need to take?

You may take classes, but it is not required. We offer, “New Member Orientation” and “What Type of Church is First-Plymouth?” classes periodically. The Orientation involves a one-hour meeting during the evening where you can meet the ministers and directors of the various programs at First-Plymouth. “What Type of Church is First-Plymouth?” provides an opportunity to learn about our church and our denomination. Childcare is provided for these events. You are welcome to attend these or any other class before or after you join the church.

Is there a formal ceremony for joining the church?

Once you join the church, you will be invited as a group to be received into membership and introduced to the congregation during a Sunday worship service. New members will also be invited at that time to have a light meal with staff, deacons, and others joining the church. This is optional for those who want to take part.

What does it mean to become a member of First-Plymouth?

Being a member means that you have an opportunity to become involved in church groups to enrich your spiritual journey. You will receive the newsletter, The Herald which will outline the upcoming events and classes at First-Plymouth. Being a member means that you become a part of a caring community. If you are hospitalized or in need of assistance, contact our staff and we will help you.
